What Differentiates Ring Joint Gasket From Other Gasket Types?

Ring joint gaskets differ from full-face gaskets. Ring-joint flanges sit in a groove machined into each half of the flange, whereas full-face gaskets require no groove, sit parallel to the flange face, and cover the entirety of the face. This can often mean that full-face gaskets require bolt holes, whereas ring joint gaskets do not. Ring joint gaskets can be dropped into a flange joint without completely disassembling the joint because ring joint gaskets take up less volume and so do not require bolt holes in the gasket. Although ring joint gaskets may still be harder to install as they are difficult to align properly in the flange groove. Since ring joint gaskets sit in a flange groove they are made of less material than a full-face gasket by volume.
